But Tess of the D'Ubervilles was so confusing!

OMFG!
I <3 Tess! Legit, one of my fave books, right next to Jane Eyre!

Hey Cassidy, you ever miss Mr. Barth? lol

Wow, that's hilarious.
I guess I miss his humor sometimes, although I so don't miss it enough to ever go back, and his taste in novels always pissed me off. I loved Tess of the D'Ubervilles and he loved Gulliver's travels (which made me want to die).

Marry/Fuck/Kill Twilight Vamps Go

Hmm, I feel I should remind you that unfortunately they are all fictional characters.
But if they weren't it'd break down like this;
Marry: Carlisle, I <3 me some PFac.
Fuck: Emmet
Kill: Edward, although I'm totally in love with the character, I don't know I could live with a dude who could hear all of my naughty thoughts about his brothers and sisters.

There's Always A Flip Side

H. D. [Hilda Doolittle]

Helen

All Greece hates
the still eyes in the white face,
the lustre as of olives
where she stands,
and the white hands.

All Greece reviles
the wan face when she smiles,
hating it deeper still
when it grows wan and white,
remembering past enchantments
and past ills.

Greece sees unmoved,
God's daughter, born of love,
the beauty of cool feet
and slenderest knees,
could love indeed the maid,
only if she were laid,
white ash amid funereal cypresses.

Whenever things look rough, remember that there's always another way to see them.

You can't appreciate the highs without experiencing the lows as well.

Somebody Get's It

Over at the-f-word, there's a heartening post about some hooligans at the University of Southern California who decided they were going to act out and commemorate NEDAW for all to see.

Kudos to you guys,

We are all...

PHENOMENAL WOMAN
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing of my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
